Fireworks suspected as cause of Smith County house fire

SMITH COUNTY, Texas (KLTV) - The Smith County Fire Marshal’s Office says fireworks may have caused a destructive house fire Thursday night.

According to the release from the county, the fire was reported in the 16900 block of FM 756 southwest of Tyler around 11:45 p.m. Thursday. Several occupants were home, the release said, but no one was injured.

Fire Marshal Chad Hogue said preliminary investigation shows that the fire originated in the garage and may have been caused by fireworks.

Response included Smith County ESD2, Flint-Gresham, Whitehouse’s engine, Bullard, Arp, UT Health EMS, Texas State Game Wardens, and Tyler Fire’s battalion 2 and truck 2.

The home was declared a total loss.
