WACO, Texas (KWTX) - A Waco man who accurately predicted he would go to jail for harassing a McLennan County probation officer was indicted Tuesday on a stalking charge.

A McLennan County grand jury indicted Bruce Wade Honey, 60, as a habitual criminal after he reportedly sent more than 60 voicemail messages to a woman who was supervising him on misdemeanor probation after a 2022 drunken driving conviction.

The indictment against Honey alleges he made the probation officer feel “harassed, annoyed, abused, tormented, embarrassed or offended.”

According to arrest records, Honey, who has two prior felony convictions and four misdemeanor convictions, began on the woman’s probation caseload in January 2023 and was warned seven months later by probation administrators “of his inappropriate behavior and his harassment” of the probation officer.

In July 2023, Honey was transferred to another probation officer, but reportedly continued to harass the officer. He received a second administrative warning about his behavior in October 2023 before he completed his term of probation and was released from supervision in February, according to an arrest affidavit.

Officials say he continued to leave messages on the woman’s phone, alleging he left 56 voicemails from April 26 to May 15, with such messages as “You’re a good-looking woman,” “You brought this on yourself,” “I know I’m going to get locked up for this,” “I’m attracted to you,” and “I need to quit harassing you.”

Probation officials changed the woman’s phone extension, but kept her old extension active. After that, Honey left eight new messages from May 16 to May 20, an arrest affidavit alleges. The frequent contact has made the woman fear for her safety, she told authorities.

Honey was indicted as a habitual criminal because he was sentenced to three years in prison in 2003 for stalking and was placed on probation in 1993 for burglary of a building before his probation was revoked a year later and he was sentenced to four years in prison.

Honey also has other misdemeanor convictions for indecent exposure, criminal trespass and prostitution, court records show.

If convicted as a habitual criminal, Honey faces a minimum of 25 years in prison up to 99 years or life.
