NEW YORK (KTRE) - Former Central Heights Blue Devil Duke Ellis has been designated for assignment for the second time this season.

The New York Mets designated Ellis for assignment on June 30.

When a player is designated for assignment, that player is immediately removed from the club’s 40-man roster. Within seven days of the transaction, the player can either be traded or placed on an outright or unconditional release waivers. If the player is claimed off waivers by another club, that player is immediately added to that team’s 40-man roster, at which point he can be optioned or assigned to the team’s 26-man roster. If the player clears outright waivers, the player may be assigned outright to the Minor Leagues.

Ellis has gone through this process already once this season. Ellis was called up to the White Sox on June 4, and designated for assignment by Chicago on June 16. The New York Mets picked up Ellis off of waivers on June 21.

Ellis appeared in two games for the Binghamton Rumble Ponies, the Mets Double-A affiliate, before being designated for assignment.
