BRYAN, Texas (KBTX) - The Bryan-College Station community is showing its support for the family of a 6-year-old girl who was struck and killed by lightning during a storm Thursday evening.

Those with knowledge of what happened say Quinece Turner was fatally injured outside a home between Bryan and Wickson Valley around 5 p.m. when a small but severe storm with heavy rain, wind, and lightning pushed through Brazos County.

According to the Bryan Fire Department and Brazos County VFD Precinct 2 firefighters, they were sent to the area, however, the child had already been rushed to St. Joseph Hospital in Bryan by a private vehicle by the time they arrived.

A GoFundMe set up for the family to help pay for funeral-related expenses says Quinece was with her father when it happened. As of Friday evening, more than $12,000 had been donated by more than 230 donors on the site.

“Please help this family out in a time of need. Any donation would be greatly appreciated. None of us want to ever have our child go before us,” said the GoFundMe organizer, Sandra Hatten.

Quinece attended Kemp-Carver Elementary School in Bryan and the school district has set up a prayer vigil for next Tuesday, July 2, at 6 p.m. in the gym.

Funeral arrangements have not been set or made public at this time.

A spokesman for the Brazos County Sheriff’s Office says more information may be shared in a news release at a future time.
