WACO, Texas (KWTX) - The Waco Police Department arrested a documented gang member after a drive by shooting left two injured, an arrest affidavit states.

Sedarrien Nichols, 21, is charged with aggravated assault and deadly conduct.

On March 29, 2023, a large crowd was standing in the 1600 block of Spring Street when a grey sedan passed through the group twice that caught the attention of several individuals in the group, the document states.

As the car passed again, the affidavit states Nichols and the rear seat passenger in the sedan started shooting at the crowd, hitting two people, the affidavit says.

Both victims were taken to Baylor Scott & White Hospital in Waco, the document states.

Police say witnesses on the scene showed them pictures of social media that identified Nichols as the front seat passenger who was hanging out the window while shooting into the crowd, according to the affidavit.

Later in the investigation, sworn testimony from a witness identified Nichols as the person who was shooting, the affidavit states. Nichols is a documented member of a criminal street gang which they believe to be the motivating factor for the shooting, the affidavit states.

Nichols is currently in McLennan County Jail and his bond is set at $2.25 million.
