BALTIMORE (KTRE) - Former Central Heights Blue Devil Grayson Rodriguez picked up his ninth win of the 2024 season following the Orioles’ 4-2 win over the Cleveland Guardians Wednesday night.

Rodriguez pitched seven innings allowing five hits and two solo home runs while picking up four strikeouts. With this win, the Orioles end a five-game losing streak and are a game back from the New York Yankees for the top spot in the AL East.

With this performance, Rodriguez builds on to his All-Star resume. Fan voting is currently underway for position players. Pitchers on the other hand are selected by a combination of the player ballot and the Commissioner’s Office. Rodriguez is tied for fourth in the MLB with seven other pitchers with nine wins this year.

The Orioles begin a four-game home series with the Texas Rangers Thursday. Rodriguez is expected to miss the Rangers series and start the first game of the team’s next series in Seattle. That game is scheduled for Tuesday, July 2nd.

Rodriguez had won three starts in a row before his last start against Houston on June 21. Rodriguez went five innings, allowing seven runs on nine hits in the loss. He will look to bounce back on Wednesday against Cleveland.

Rodriguez has only pitched against Cleveland one other time in his career. He pitched against the Guardians on September 21 of last year. Rodriguez allowed two runs on five hits while striking out seven.

On the year, Rodriguez is 8-3 with a 3.82 ERA. In just over 75 innings pitched, Rodriguez has 85 strikeouts to 25 walks.

The Orioles have lost five games in a row and are looking to take the third game from the Guardians to avoid being swept in consecutive series.

Baltimore takes on Cleveland tonight at Oriole Park at Camden Yards. First pitch is set for 5:35 p.m.
