TATUM, Texas (KLTV) - It’s been almost a year to the day since Tatum football standout Jacoby Norris was gravely injured in a car wreck. He was only released from the hospital last month.

On Saturday afternoon, community members gathered at Tatum High to celebrate his progress.

“He’s asking can he drive; he wants a four-wheeler; he wants a truck. ‘Can you give me the keys? I wanna go see my girlfriend.’ I said, ‘No, you can’t do all that!’” said Jacoby’s mother, Lucretia Norris.

She said her son’s memory is showing signs of improvement. He is able to communicate with others as well, after relying on a breathing machine when he was in the hospital. He was in a coma for a time after the crash.

“I would play gospel music in his ear, and when he came out, that’s all he’s been singing is gospel music ever since,” said Lucretia Norris.
