TYLER, Texas (KLTV) - Kinsey Thompson from the East Texas Food Bank visited us with a great idea for a summertime snack for you and the kids. It’s healthy, delicious, and easy to make!

Homemade Granola

Ingredients

  • 3 cups rolled oats or old-fashioned oats
  • ¼ cup honey
  • ¼ cup canola oil
  • 1 ½ tsp cinnamon
  • 2/3 cup dried fruit
  • *optional: 1 cup chopped nuts

Put all ingredients except for dried fruit in a bowl; mix well.

Set stove to medium-high heat and pour mixture into a pan. Stir constantly until lightly browned. Don’t overcook it; if it gets dark brown, it won’t taste as good.

Place in a bowl and stir in dried fruit. Cool thoroughly.

Store in a tightly covered container. Serve over yogurt or eat plain.

Here’s something you can make with your homemade granola:

Berry Blast Off

  • 1 cup sliced strawberries
  • 1 cup low-fat granola
  • 1 cup blueberries or other fruit
  • 1 cup plan, low-fat yogurt

Get out four small glasses. Wash all fruit.

Divide the strawberries among the glasses.

Sprinkle granola over the strawberries.

Divide blueberries and place on top of granola.

Spoon the yogurt on top of the blueberries.

Enjoy! Refrigerate leftovers within 2 hours.
