ANGELINA COUNTY, Texas (KTRE) - Billie Page has been an employee at the Angelina County Tax Office for 17 years and has served as Tax Assessor for eight.

Now, at the age of 65, Page wants to retire, which is why she’s endorsed candidate Terri Collier.

“It’s time for me to step down and let someone younger and smarter and more energetic take over,” says Page.

When signing up to run for re-election, Page says she was on the fence, and tried to withdraw once her decision was made, but it was too late to remove herself from the ballot.

“The State of Texas has a one day only, one day. You have to withdraw that day, and I missed that day,” says Page.

Page and Collier have worked side-by-side for years.

Page says Collier would be the most logical candidate to keep things running.

“It touches my heart, and we’ve been amazing friends for a long time and I hope that I can fill her shoes,” says Collier.

With 17 years of experience in Auto Registration and Property Tax with Angelina County, Collier now serves as Chief Deputy, and says if she isn’t elected, she’s not going anywhere.

“I’m grateful and very honored to be working for her and I will stay as long as I’m allowed,” says Collier.

Page says if re-elected she would retire a year later, leaving Angelina County Commissioners to appoint someone to the position.

Angelina County Tax Assessor incumbent Billie Page shares why she’s decided to endorse her opponent, Terri Collier, and ask voters to vote for her.
