TYLER, Texas (KLTV) - This pudding brings back memories of childhood days around the table eating homemade dessert, prepared by mom or grandma. This recipe is so simple to make, and the taste and texture are superior to a boxed mix, if you can spare 10 minutes to make it.

Velvety chocolate pudding

(Makes 2 servings; you can double it, if desired)

Ingredients:

2 tablespoons of granulated sugar

1 slightly heaping tablespoon of cornstarch

1/8 teaspoon cayenne pepper (Omit if you’re not into the spicy warmth, or decrease to just a pinch)

1 cup whole or 2-percent milk

1/3 cup chocolate chips

1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract

Method:

Combine sugar, cornstarch, and cayenne pepper in a sauce pot, and whisk together well.

Add the milk, whisking in until the dry ingredients have dissolved into the milk.

Place pot over medium heat, and cook, continually stirring, allowing the mixture to come to a gentle boil.

Cook and continue to stir constantly for two minutes while pudding is still boiling. (I like to use a whisk to make sure that there are no lumps, and then continue to stir with my silicone spatula).

As it thickens after two minutes, add the chocolate chips, and continue to whisk or stir until they’ve completely melted and pudding is nice and dark.

Take off heat, then whisk in the vanilla extract.

Pour into serving bowls, and serve warm or chilled. Top with whipped cream, if you like (and who doesn’t like that?) Enjoy!
