TYLER, Texas (KLTV) - The job market remains very strong, especially in Texas with unemployment staying at near record lows – meaning – if you want a job, you can most likely find one.

You would think the economy would be humming along but one constant irritant remains and that is inflation. Prices rose more than 3 percent for the 12 months that ended in January which is a lot more than expected. Economists are blaming it on shelter costs and other services. But we are a good distance away from the challenges of supply chain slow downs in most categories of goods and the Federal Reserve has kept borrowing rates high and still inflation is increasing faster than it should.

2 percent inflation growth is the target. Admittedly, the Federal government can’t directly impact inflation, but we are seeing a laughable response to some of the issues from President Biden. A video released by the White House on Super Bowl Sunday has the president condemning something known as Shrinkflation – the deliberate reduction in consumable products while charging the same or even more for those products.

I don’t think that comes as a surprise to anyone that there is less product in a bag of chips than there used to be. So rather than point out the obvious, the President and his team and Congress for that matter need to reduce federal spending and inspire Americans to save.

Let’s worry less about the number of pretzels in a bag and more about relieving some fiscal pain, and that will make for a Better East Texas.
