Woman pleads no contest in deadly Saunders County crash

LINCOLN, Neb. (KLKN) — A 23-year-old woman pleaded no contest on Monday to causing a deadly crash in Saunders County last year.

Madisyn Haack of Bennington was found guilty of motor vehicle homicide.

She was also initially charged with manslaughter, DUI with a blood alcohol content over .15%, and willful reckless driving, but the charges were reduced in exchange for her plea.

On Nov. 22, Haack was driving a pickup truck near County Roads 10 and L southeast of Mead.

She was going 77 mph in a 55 mph zone, according to an arrest affidavit.

Haack went off the road and overcorrected, causing the pickup to roll multiple times, authorities said.

Her passenger, 23-year-old Bryce Budz of Ashland, was pronounced dead at the scene.

Court documents say deputies found multiple alcohol bottles, including open ones, in the crash debris.

Haack’s blood alcohol content level was .203%, almost three times the legal limit.

Her sentencing is set for Oct. 21.

Correction: An earlier version of this article misstated Haack’s final charge. It also had an incorrect sentencing date.
