Victim identified in deadly shooting in west Lincoln parking lot
LINCOLN, Neb. (KLKN) – Police have identified the man killed Friday during a shooting in a west Lincoln parking lot.
Franciso Alvis, 25, was shot and killed in the Russ’s Market parking lot at South Coddington Avenue and West A streets around 10 p.m.
Lincoln Police Capt. Ben Miller said 20-year-old Ge’Auvieon Crayton shot Alvis during a marijuana deal inside the victim’s pickup truck. Police think Alvis was selling the marijuana.
Alvis then ran to a Jeep in the parking lot and held onto its door as it drove off. He let go at a nearby intersection, where witnesses found him with a fully loaded 9 mm handgun, Miller said.
Alvis was taken to a hospital, where he later died.
Investigators found a bullet hole in the truck’s driver’s side door and recovered a “significant” amount of marijuana, Miller said. A single slug, consistent with a 40-caliber handgun, was also discovered on the pavement outside of the vehicle.
On Saturday around 7 p.m., investigators took Crayton into custody near 25th and Holdrege streets. He was arrested on suspicion of first-degree murder and use of a weapon to commit a felony.
Investigators searched Crayton’s home and found live rounds that matched the bullets recovered at the scene and a handgun magazine, according to police.
Police are seeking additional witnesses of the shooting. Anyone with information is asked to call police at 402-441-6000 or Crime Stoppers at 402-475-3600.
