LINCOLN, Neb. (KLKN) — A trial date was set on Tuesday for a former Seward County deputy accused of manslaughter.

Lancaster County District Court Judge Susan Strong scheduled Anthony Gann’s trial for Feb. 3.

Gann, 28, was indicted by a grand jury in April.

The charge stems from a fatal shooting on Interstate 80 on Oct. 23.

Deputies tried pulling over Jorge Luis Santana-Ramirez as he was going west on Interstate 80.

But the Seward County Sheriff’s Office said he didn’t stop, instead turning around and heading east in the westbound lanes.

Santana-Ramirez later crossed into the eastbound lanes and came to a stop 7 miles west of Lincoln, authorities said.

The sheriff’s office said he then refused to come out of the car.

Gann shot Santana-Ramirez, who deputies said had a weapon. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

Under Nebraska law, the grand jury’s indictment will not be released until the trial.

Gann paid $10,000 on April 26 to be released from jail.

His next court hearing is set for Dec. 16.
