‘They both seem a little incompetent’: Lincoln voters react to calls for Biden to quit

LINCOLN, Neb. (KLKN) – As President Joe Biden faces calls to quit his reelection bid, Channel 8 asked voters what they think about both candidates.

Fiona Berkin, a Biden supporter, said the president’s performance at last week’s debate gives her concerns, but she is confident that he is her choice.

“When I sat back and thought about it for a minute, like, ‘Let’s not panic. This is our guy,'” Berkin said. “He won last time, Biden; he’ll win this time. His record speaks for itself. He had a bad night. He had a very bad night. He is also old, admittedly so.”

On Friday, Biden reaffirmed that he will stay in the race.

Berkin said if the president does decide to withdraw, Vice President Kamala Harris can step up to the plate.

“She would be more than fine,” Berkin said.

Berkin thinks abortion will decide the election and should be the focus of Biden’s potential second term.

Independent voter Henry Bills said both Biden and former President Donald Trump have flaws, which were on display in the first debate.

“My confidence is pretty low, regardless of both candidates,” he said. “I don’t feel like we are in a great position. They both seem a little incompetent in separate ways. Biden seems to be all over the place, seems like one of my grandparents, and that’s not a great thing. And Trump is really argumentative and doesn’t really want to answer questions, and that’s not what the country needs right now.”

Bills felt it was a bad choice to keep third-party candidates, like Robert F. Kennedy Jr., out of the debate.

He said it’s time for a change.

“I wouldn’t mind just someone entirely new, who hasn’t been near that role,” Bills said. “Just get fresh eyes.”
