Seward on guard for potential flooding as river and creek rise fast

LINCOLN, Neb. (KLKN) — First responders in Seward are alerting the community of possible flooding.

Officials are monitoring three areas where water was rising Thursday.

Seward Police Chief Brian Peter said officers are paying attention to any potential threat.

“I know we’ve got some more weather on the way,” he said.

A bridge going to Centennial Park was closed as the Big Blue River got higher.

And the Plum Creek was about to spill over its banks near South Columbia Avenue.

Authorities are also monitoring the creek at East Seward Street.

The creek was rising quickly. The water was higher than normal.

One woman who lives next to the creek said she’s used to flooding and is not worried.

“We have been here for 30 years now, and we’ve seen some pretty big flooding,” Lynn Brumm said. “It comes up quick, it goes down quick. Every time we get rain up north, it comes down this way.”
