LINCOLN, Neb. (KLKN) — Sen. Deb Fischer easily won her party’s nomination Tuesday for a third term representing the state of Nebraska.

Fischer defeated Arron Kowalski, a central Nebraska farmer, in the Republican primary.

She had 79% of the vote, as of 8:15 p.m.

There will be no Democratic candidate for Fischer’s seat in November, but union leader Dan Osborn is running as an independent.

Only one poll has been conducted on the race this year, and it was sponsored by the Osborn campaign.

But it suggests that the race could be close. It was conducted April 24-25 by Public Policy Polling and found Fischer leading by only 4 percentage points.

If Fischer is reelected, she will be the first Nebraska senator to win a third term since J. James Exon in 1990.
