Nebraska volleyball’s Harper Murray pleads no contest to DUI

LINCOLN, Neb. (KLKN) — Husker volleyball player Harper Murray was found guilty on Monday of driving under the influence.

Murray pleaded no contest to DUI in exchange for prosecutors dropping two other charges: careless driving and having a fictitious license.

The charges stem from a traffic stop on April 5, when Murray was pulled over near Vine Street and Antelope Valley Parkway.

Police said she was breaking multiple traffic laws.

Her blood alcohol content was 0.169%, which is twice the legal limit.

And the 19-year-old also had a fake ID on her, police said.

Lancaster County Judge Joseph Dalton set Murray’s sentencing for July 22.

Murray is also facing a misdemeanor charge in a shoplifting at Scheels, where police said she stole five gold rings worth about $65 total.

Her arraignment in that case is scheduled for Wednesday.

Murray’s lawyer, Brad Roth of McHenry Haszard Law, said she is applying for pretrial diversion in the shoplifting.

That would mean she would have to complete community service and stay out of trouble for six months, among other conditions.

“Harper has taken numerous steps regarding the issues that I would suggest led to these charges since this first began in April,” Roth said. “I’m extremely proud of her. You have to remember, she’s 19, but she’s done a very good job.”

Roth said her future on the volleyball team is unclear at the moment.

“She is getting support. She’s still on the team,” he said. “As to what’s going to happen, I haven’t been advised to that, nor I don’t think she’s been advised either.”
