LINCOLN, Neb. (KLKN) – The Nebraska Department of Health and Human Services on Friday released its 2023 abortion statistics.

Data from the report indicated a nearly 9% drop in abortions from 2022.

In total, 2,325 abortions were performed in last year, compared with 2,547 in 2022, according to the annual report.

The decrease follows the 2023 passage of the Let Them Grow Act, banning abortion after 12 weeks of gestation, with exceptions for sexual assault, incest and medical emergency.

“This is a tremendous start to ending abortion in Nebraska,” Gov Jim Pillen said in a press release. “The result is more than 220 lives saved which is a victory for our culture of life and love in Nebraska.”
