LINCOLN, Neb. (KLKN) – A Saint Paul man was arrested Saturday after stealing a gun from a pickup truck, the York County Sheriff’s Office says.

Around 8:40 p.m., deputies were sent to the McCool Junction Motor Speedway on a report of a man armed with a gun and threatening people.

Deputies arrived and found 38-year-old Brandon Dack unarmed and took him into custody, according to the sheriff’s office.

Investigators later learned that Dack stole a gun and alcohol from an unlocked pickup truck in the parking lot, the sheriff’s office said.

He then left the area and threw the gun in a nearby cornfield.  A dog with the Nebraska State Patrol helped recover the weapon.

The sheriff’s office said Dack had made a threat over the phone.  No one was threatened with the gun at the raceway.

Dack was arrested on suspicion of several changes, including possession of a stolen firearm and false reporting.
