Midday Interview: Lincoln High students prepare for “Superheroes” performance

LINCOLN, Neb. (KLKN) — Students at Lincoln High are getting ready for their annual play this week.

Two of the actors joined Channel 8 News at midday to talk about their roles in the upcoming production of “Superheroes.”

Here’s more information on the performance, which is happening Thursday only:

Lincoln High School Theatre is delighted to present their entry in the Nebraska State One-Act competition, Superheroes by Ian McWethy. LHS will present a single public performance of this year’s one-act on Thursday November 30, 2023 at 7:00 PM at the Ted Sorenson Theatre. Lincoln High School is also hosting this year’s district festival on December 2, 2023 at the Ted Sorenson Theatre.

Synopsis: For superheroes, saving the world is tough, but the time spent away from work is tougher. The Hulk has to do taxes, a crime-fighting sidekick joins a support group, and Batman goes stir-crazy without enough criminals to take down. SUPERHEROES is a funny, fast-paced series of vignettes that explores how the caped crusaders deal with life in street clothes.

Director Annaliese Saathoff leads a cast of 25 in this entertaining, day-in-the-life comedy that reveals the more domestic aspects of superhero life. This is the second year that Saathoff leads the One-Act for Lincoln High. She notes “This is a wonderful opportunity for our students. It is always a pleasure to lead Lincoln High in the State One-Act competition. I believe this show will showcase our student’s talent while giving them a project that can be enjoyed by all.” The show will also feature 35 students in the crew, involving nearly all of Lincoln High’s unique student-focused theatre program. The One-Act competition also features a category for best stage crew, an award that Lincoln High won at the district competition in 2022.

Superheroes is the second show in LHS Theatre’s 2023-24 season. LHS Theatre will also present the musical The Adams Family in the Spring. Junior Soren Vesely , along with the LHS Theatre staff, would like to thank the Lincoln community for continuing to support Lincoln High Theatre. “Come spend a wonderful night with us watching this super show!” In-person tickets are available online for $5 at www.tedsorensentheatre.ludus.com.
