LINCOLN, Neb. (KLKN) – A man tried disposing of drugs Tuesday during a traffic stop in north Lincoln, court documents say.

Around 4 a.m., an officer pulled over a vehicle for failing to signal near North 11th Street and Cornhusker Highway.

The driver, 41-year-old Blake Jones, and a passenger got out of the vehicle, and an officer told them to stop, an arrest affidavit says.

The officer chased after the passenger but eventually lost him as he ran behind a business, police said.

Jones got into his vehicle and tried to leave — but officers stopped him, according to the affidavit.

He was given a written warning for the improper turn, despite investigators finding a bong inside the vehicle.

Later on, investigators were reviewing video footage when they saw Jones throwing bags into a nearby dumpster, while the officer was chasing after the passenger, police said.

Officers returned to the scene and found a camo bag and a trash bag in the dumpster.

Inside, investigators discovered 173.2 grams of cocaine, 263.2 grams of marijuana and a scale, the affidavit alleges.

Officers found Jones near 44th and O streets around 6 p.m. and arrested him on suspicion of several felony drug charges.

A Lancaster County judge set Jones’ bond at $750,000.  He must pay $75,000 to be released from jail.
