Man sentenced after having 5-plus pounds of meth mailed to Nebraska home

LINCOLN, Neb. (KLKN) — A central Nebraska drug dealer was sent to prison on Tuesday after getting caught with more than 5 pounds of methamphetamine.

Francisco Ramirez-Vazquez, 22, was sentenced to seven years and three months for possession of meth with intent to distribute.

U.S. District Judge Joseph Bataillon also ordered him to spend two years on supervised release after prison.

Ramirez-Vazquez is from Guatemala but was living in Hastings in March 2023, when the U.S. Postal Service intercepted a package that was being mailed to him.

A dog smelled drugs coming from the box, according to the U.S. Attorney’s Office.

Investigators opened it and found three bundles of suspected meth, authorities said.

They got a search warrant for the home the package was addressed to, then let it be delivered.

At the home, investigators found that box, plus another Postal Service box with more meth.

Ramirez-Vazquez also had additional stashes of meth, cocaine, a digital scale and baggies in the home, according to the U.S. Attorney’s Office.

The meth in the Postal Service boxes weighed more than 2,665 grams, which is about 5.9 pounds.
