LPD looking for person with gun at Lincoln ‘park takeover’ that drew hundreds

LINCOLN, Neb. Police are searching for the person who was carrying a gun in a massive crowd at a Lincoln park Sunday.

A video circulating from the event hosted by YouTube influencer Cam Wilder showed someone holding a gun.

Wilder posted on social media, telling fans he would be in Antelope Park to play basketball on Sunday night. He advertised it as a “park takeover,” luring fans to the courts.

Hundreds of fans packed inside the courts, although the event did not have a permit from the City of Lincoln. The Lincoln Police Department said it was notified about the event on Saturday and prepared as best as it could.

A man who lives near the park said he was shocked by the number of people in the area.

“We heard a commotion, and all of the sudden, we came out, and this whole street was blocked up, or parked up,” said Larry Morford. “Unfortunately, there were cars that were blocking our driveways to the point where we couldn’t get out.”

Several officers, including members of the SWAT team, came to the scene trying to control the crowd before shutting down the event due to overcrowding and safety concerns.

The Nebraska State Patrol helicopter was also overhead, assisting officers.

LPD said the crowd from the courts eventually dispersed.

Police are asking anyone with information about the person with the gun to call police at 402-441-6000 or Crime Stoppers at 402-475-3600.
