Lincoln Public Schools says students and staff will not go outside to view eclipse

LINCOLN, Neb. (KLKN) – Lincoln Public Schools sent a message to families on Sunday announcing that students and staff would stay inside during the solar eclipse on Monday.

The decision was made as a safety precaution and because of the timing of the eclipse, the district said.

Recesses and classes that normally occur outdoors will be moved inside from 11 a.m. until school dismissal.

“Given students’ natural curiosity, it’s important to keep them indoors to prevent them from looking directly at the eclipse,” the message said.

But the district said some middle and high school classes may view the eclipse during class time as part of curriculum.

LPS said parents can take their children out of school during the afternoon to watch the eclipse.
