Lincoln Police remove hundreds of kids from Antelope Park

LINCOLN, Neb. (KLKN) – Lincoln Police cleared Antelope Park on Sunday night after hundreds of kids gathered to watch a YouTube star play basketball.

The Lincoln Police Department said it was notified on Saturday that the event would happen at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln.

But the location was changed at the last minute to Antelope Park, police said.

Social media influencer Cam Wilder announced that he would be at the basketball court at 7 p.m., but LPD Sgt. Tyler Cooper said a crowd started gathering around 4:30 p.m.

Extra law enforcement was in the area to help with traffic and keep the area safe, according to Cooper.

But eventually, the crowd grew to around 400 people, who had lined around the court and were sitting on top of fences.

To add to the chaos, several people in the crowd began yelling that there was a gun.

Cooper said it became too dangerous, so police began evacuating the area.

The courts and park were cleared by around 10 p.m.

A video circulating shows someone in the crowd holding a weapon.

Police said they are investigating it as a possible weapons violation.

Anyone with information on who had the gun should call police at 402-441-6000 or Crime Stoppers at 402-475-3600.
