Lincoln Police Department opens new $8 million dispatch center

LINCOLN, Neb. (KLKN) – Years of planning, designing and building have finally come to an end with the Lincoln Police Department’s new state-of-the-art dispatch center.

A ribbon cutting ceremony was held Thursday morning at the new location to celebrate the city’s accomplishment.

The project cost around $8 million in total, with funding coming from both local and federal levels.

The new site allows for dispatch to expand their workforce from 51 to 61 members. They also added six new dispatch bays.

LPD said increasing the amount of employees allows for faster response time and 24/7 support.

The employees were also very excited about the new space.

“First and foremost, we’re really excited about having windows.” said senior dispatcher Shasta Starky, “We went from working in a dark basement to being able to see outside, which is fantastic.”

The old space will now serve as a back-up dispatch center in case of emergency.
