LINCOLN, Neb. (KLKN) — A man will go to prison for 15 years after getting caught with a large amount of drugs at a Lincoln motel.

Dylan Johnson, 26, of Lincoln was sentenced in federal court Wednesday for possession with intent to distribute methamphetamine and possessing a firearm in furtherance of drug trafficking.

On May 1, 2023, officers were surveilling the Super 8 near Southwest 27th and West O streets, according to the Lincoln Police Department.

They saw Johnson drop multiple bags of drugs in the parking lot, the U.S. Attorney’s Office said.

Investigators arrested him and searched his motel room, where they discovered meth, cocaine, baggies, a scale and a heat sealer.

They also found an AR-15 rifle and 21 rounds of ammunition, authorities said.

Johnson was a felon, so he was prohibited from owning firearms.

But he told police that he bought the rifle to protect him during drug sales, according to the U.S. Attorney’s Office.

All told, Johnson had 388 grams of meth and 4 grams of cocaine, authorities said. Of the meth, 370 grams were pure.

After prison, Johnson will spend five years on supervised release. There is no parole in the federal system.
