Interim Fillmore County sheriff pleads not guilty to DUI charge
SEWARD, Neb. (KLKN) – Interim Fillmore County Sheriff Steve Julich pleaded not guilty on Wednesday to a charge regarding a DUI arrest on March 20.
According to the affidavit of Julich’s arrest, Deputy Anthony Gann initially responded to a crash on 140th Road south of Alvo Road shortly before 6 a.m.
He found a vehicle in the ditch with Julich in the back seat. The vehicle had been running and was still in drive.
Julich told Deputy Steve Schulz that he had been drinking with friends in Lincoln and that two people had left with him from the bar, according to the affidavit. Julich was asked whom he left the bar with but said he didn’t know the people.
Julich has been with the Fillmore County Sheriff’s Office for 17 years and was sworn in as interim sheriff in November. He is running for a full term as sheriff this year.
In court, he pleaded “not guilty” to the charge, and he requested a jury trial.
Under Nebraska Criminal Statute a Class W Misdemeanor (First Conviction) carries a maximum of sixty days imprisonment and $500 fine. The mandatory minimum is seven days imprisonment and a $500 fine.
The judge ordered a preliminary hearing to be set for June 8 at 9 a.m. at the Seward County Courthouse.
