Fillmore County sheriff arrested on suspicion of DUI

LINCOLN, Neb. (KLKN) — Fillmore County Sheriff Steve Julich was arrested Sunday morning on suspicion of driving under the influence.

He was involved in a crash about 6:30 a.m. on 140th Road south of Alvo Road in Seward County, according to County Attorney Wendy Elston.

Officials say Julich refused to take any sobriety test and was taken to the Seward County Jail.

He posted a $500 bail and was released, authorities say.

Julich had no comment on his arrest Tuesday afternoon.

When asked if he was still acting as sheriff, he said that was being decided. He said the County Board of Supervisors discussed the topic earlier Tuesday.

Julich has been with the Fillmore County Sheriff’s Office for 17 years. He was sworn in as interim sheriff in November.

Charges against Julich are pending. A tentative court date has been set for April 20.

He is running for a full term as sheriff this year.
