LINCOLN, Neb. (KLKN) — The former associate athletic director of Midland University pleaded not guilty Tuesday to raping a woman.

Steven Heimann, 51, waived his preliminary hearing in Dodge County Court, and a judge sent his case to district court.

In October, he drugged a woman with sleeping pills at a Fremont home, court documents allege.

Heimann sexually assaulted her while she slept, police said, and recorded it on his cellphone.

A warrant was issued for his arrest in early May, and he was taken into custody a week later.

Earlier this month, the Fremont Tribune reported that Heimann was no longer working at Midland.

His name has been removed from the athletic department’s online staff directory.

Heiman is charged with first-degree sexual assault, intentionally filming a person without consent and distribution of a controlled substance.

He is scheduled to be arraigned in district court on Aug. 19.
