Early voting begins ahead of Nebraska primary

LINCOLN, Neb. (KLKN) – Early voting for the primary election started Monday, and more than 35,000 Nebraskans have already requested ballots.

People can now fill out a ballot and cast their vote in a drop box at the Lancaster County Election Commission’s office.

But this year, something is different. For the first time in state history, voters must present a valid photo ID to cast their votes.

Acceptable forms of photo ID include:

  • Nebraska driver’s license
  • Nebraska state ID
  • U.S. passport
  • Military ID
  • Tribal ID
  • Hospital, assisted-living facility or nursing home record
  • Nebraska political subdivision ID (state, county, city, school, etc.)
  • Nebraska college or university ID (public or private)

There are 93 county election offices across Nebraska that will accept ballots.

This early voting period will close May 13, one day before the primary.
