Beatrice parents take kids to the pool to escape extreme heat

BEATRICE, Neb. (KLKN) — Southeast Nebraska was under a heat advisory Thursday, with temperatures reaching potentially dangerous levels.

Parents in Gage County took precautions amid the scorching temps.

For many, one simple solution was the pool. Families were splashing and wading in the water.

“I decided to take the afternoon off and take these kiddos to the pool, just since it’s so hot out,” Lyndsey Haag said.

Another mom who took her kids to pool shared how she keeps them hydrated without missing out on the summer sunshine.

“We’ve definitely been coming to the pool a lot,” Jalanea Tabke said. “Been eating a lot of popsicles, spending time in the sprinkler outside, just staying cool as easily as we can.”

Dr. Michael Schooff with CHI Health said families spending time outside should look out for signs of dehydration.

“Thirst is the first symptom, or a symptom, of dehydration,” he said. “Other things like lightheadedness, tiredness, weakness, headaches, dry mouth, dark-colored urine.”

He said people should go to the doctor if they become dizzy or confused and are extremely thirsty.
