LINCOLN, Neb. (AP) _ The Nebraska Supreme Court says an author won't be given access to a serial child killer's drawings.

The court ruled Friday that author Mark Pettit “failed to demonstrate good cause for inspection and reproduction of the drawings.'' The high court reversed a Lancaster County District Court judge's earlier decision granting access and told the judge to dismiss the author's lawsuit.

In July 2014 the state attorney general's office filed an appeal of the judge's ruling for the Department of Correctional Services.

Pettit is author of “A Need to Kill: The True-Crime Account of John Joubert, Nebraska's Most Notorious Serial Child Killer.'' Pettit has been trying for more than 25 years to get the prison system to release two drawings in which Joubert said he depicted his fantasies to kill again.
