Have you lost your over the air KLKN-TV signal?

If you have lost the over-the-air signal from KLKN-TV, most likely you were actually getting Channel 31 with a UHF antenna. You can still get a signal from VHF Channel 8.

Until recently, we had a low power UHF signal on Channel 31 which served the City of Lincoln.  This channel may have shown up as Channel 8.1, 8.2, 8.3 and 8.4 on some televisions and converter boxes.  The transmitter is not working and we do not have a plan to repair it, because we will lose the channel sometime between now and the summer.  Due to the FCC spectrum repack and auction, Channel 31 no longer belongs to Channel 8 KLKN-TV.

Our full power VHF Channel 8 from the transmitter in Utica, NE is unaffected and is operating.  If you have lost the over-the-air signal from Channel 8 KLKN-TV, most likely you were actually getting Channel 31 with a UHF antenna.  You must have a VHF antenna to receive it properly.  Some antennas labeled “HD Antenna”, only have the ability to get UHF, while other antennas get both UHF and VHF.  To get the channels in Lincoln and Omaha, you must have a UHF/VHF antenna.  www.Antennaweb.org is a great resource to assist in selecting the right indoor or outdoor antenna for you.

If you have an indoor antenna which can receiveVHF signals, you should orient the antenna pointing to the west.  You can manually scan your television or converter box, while moving your antenna a little bit every time until you get a signal.  You can also try to auto scan for channels.  You may notice that every time you scan, you add some signals and lose others.  This has to do with the orientation of the antenna.  You may need to take note of the orientation best suited to your viewing preferences.

Please follow the instructions which came with your antenna to maximize the number of channels you can receive.

We understand that this is frustrating, but there is nothing we can do to replace the UHF signal.

This also does not affect any broadcast received from cable TV or satellite TV.
