16-year-old boy killed in northeast Lincoln stabbing is identified

LINCOLN, Neb. (KLKN) – Police have identified a 16-year-old boy who was killed Saturday in a northeast Lincoln stabbing.

Assistant Police Chief Jason Stille said Xavian Sawyer was stabbed during a fight near 64th and Adams streets around 11:45 p.m.

Sawyer was taken to a hospital, where he later died.  A 14-year-old boy is in custody for the stabbing, Stille said.

Police are unsure if the teen will be charged as an adult, but he could face a first-degree murder charge.  Channel 8 has reached out to the Lancaster County Attorney’s Office.

Stille said a fight at a different location might’ve led to the stabbing.  Investigators think the teens knew each other.

Police are seeking witnesses of the fight.  Anyone with information is asked to call police at 402-441-6000 or Crime Stoppers at 402-475-3600.

Lincoln Public Schools Crisis Team is at East High School, where Sawyer was a student, to provide support to students and staff.
