Wendy Wilk

Washington Bureau Chief

In 2004, Wendy was named the 3rd Washington Bureau Chief in the company’s history, overseeing national, political, and breaking news coverage from the nation’s capital for more than two-dozen television markets, reaching 24 million U.S. households. The Washington Bureau team is also instrumental in groupwide coverage across Hearst stations of major national news events such as the COVID-19 pandemic, the opioid crisis, and the federal government’s response to weather catastrophes, and even Olympic coverage.

Over the years, the Hearst Television Washington DC bureau has partnered with leading fact-checking organizations including FactCheck.org and PolitiFact as part of Hearst Television’s award-winning, industry-leading coverage of campaigns and elections.

During Wendy’s tenure with Hearst Television, the Washington News Bureau contributed to the company’s groupwide news coverage which was honored with numerous awards for distinguished journalism, industry innovation, and community service, including 10 consecutive Walter Cronkite Awards for political journalism, and a Peabody award for political journalism.

Wendy started her news career as a senior in high school in her hometown of Tulsa, Oklahoma. She received a Bachelor of Science degree in Journalism from Boston University – where her first “paid” assignment was helping cover the 1986 World Series. After switching from sports to news, she worked at local stations in Tulsa (KJRH-TV & KOTV-TV), Baltimore (WBAL-TV), Dallas (KXAS-TV) and WTTG-TV in Washington, DC, where she was the long-time Managing Editor for news.

While at WTTG-TV, Wendy was part of the team that received a National Edward R. Murrow award for spot news coverage of the Sniper shooting spree, and regional Murrow awards for continuous and spot news coverage of the September 11th attacks, as well as a regional Emmy for “Best Newscast” during the 2000 election recount.

Wendy lives just outside “the Beltway” in Maryland with her (very patient) husband and son.
