Alex McLoon

Reporter

Alex McLoon reports for KETV Newswatch 7. He’s been telling stories across Omaha and eastern Nebraska since 2018. His favorite stories come from everyday people.

Alex graduated from the University of Kansas with a degree in journalism. He reported and anchored campus news, as well as the Jayhawks men’s basketball and football programs at the student station KUJH. His first reports for the Jayhawks came from Omaha during the 2015 NCAA Tournament when the downtown arena was still the Century Link Center. Alex also covered news in Topeka, Kansas, before moving to Omaha.

His TV career started in high school at his hometown Liberty, Missouri, —just north of Kansas City. He helped produce high school and college sports broadcasts, eventually working his way on camera as a play-by-play commentator. One of his best memories was hosting part of a 48-hour long basketball tournament. He also grew up freelancing for FOX Sports.

One of Alex’s favorite Omaha stories was picked up by CNBC when a woman receiving COVID-19 treatment fell into a three-month coma. Her husband journaled about her recovery, telling Alex he was planning her funeral. Instead, she soon returned to consciousness, completed therapy, and returned home.

Alex enjoys Omaha’s restaurants, arts, and history—as well as the people who live here. He's a member of the KU journalism school's Young Professionals Alumni Board. Send him an email, news tip, or story idea at alex.mcloon@hearst.com!
