Omaha woman celebrates her 100th birthday with a party, shares her secret to staying young
An Omaha woman celebrated her 100th birthday on Friday.
Ruth Gilmore had a party full of friends at Life Care Center in north Omaha.
She was originally born in Mississippi but moved to Nebraska to be with her brother.
She has been a favorite at Life Care Center for the past five years.
"We sit there, and we will talk to her for hours. And she's funny. She's a very funny lady. She didn't really come off funny, but she's hilarious," said the activities director, Vellita Brown.
And she was not just a staff favorite.
"And she has quite a bit of boyfriends in there. People love her in there. The men love her," Brown said.
While many things have changed over the years, Miss Ruth is still the same.
"When she was younger, she was always cleaning, if she sees a little piece of paper on the floor, she'll want you to pick it up. She still is now. If she sees something on the floor, she'll want you to get it up," said her daughter Phyllis Gilmore.
And Ruth's secret to staying young?
"I said, serving God," she said.
