KINDERGARTEN CLASS HAS DONE SOMETHING MOST PEOPLE NEVER DO. STUDENTS AT NELSON MANDELA ELEMENTARY WROTE A BOOK, AND WITH THE HELP OF THEIR TEACHER, THESE KIDS ARE NOW PUBLISHED AUTHORS KETV NEWSWATCH SEVEN’S IZZY FUNFAIR DREW HAS THE STORY. A LIFETIME ACHIEVEMENT AT THE AGE OF FIVE, KINDERGARTNERS AT NELSON MANDELA ELEMENTARY HAVE PUBLISHED A BOOK, MY DEAR JUST GOBBLED ALL DAY. HE PLAYED IN THE BARN AND HE PLAYS IN THE HAGUE. I TO THE MIXED UP BARNYARD FEATURES 16 AUTHORS, ALL STUDENTS, IN DIANE MOORE’S KINDERGARTEN CLASS. AND SO THEY JUST WROTE WHATEVER THEY FELT ABOUT THAT ANIMAL. AND WE HAD IT PUBLISHED BY A STUDENT. TREASURES AND BEING BANGED THEIR PUBLISHED IN THE KINDERGARTEN. ISN’T THAT AMAZING? THE BOOK WAS THE STUDENT’S FINAL STEP IN LEARNING HOW TO WRITE, AND WE MADE THOSE SOUNDS, THOSE PHONOGRAMS, INTO WORDS. AND THEN WE MADE THOSE WORDS INTO SENTENCES. SO WE SAID, WHAT CAN WE DO NEXT? AND THEY SAID, WE HAVE TO DO PARAGRAPHS. SO WE DID PARAGRAPHS AND THEN I SAID, WHAT CAN WE DO WITH THAT? AND THEY SAID, WELL, LET’S WRITE A BOOK. EACH STUDENT HAD A DIFFERENT REASON FOR WRITING SOME SORT. THE SPOTLIGHT IS SUPPOSED TO BE AUTHOR TO COLOR. AND SO THAT PEOPLE CAN MAKE ME FAMOUS WHILE OTHERS LOVE THE CRAFT. I WANTED TO WRITE A BOOK BECAUSE I GOOD AT WRITING WORDS. THIS IS THE FIRST TIME MOORE HAS HELPED STUDENTS WRITE A BOOK. SHE PLANS TO DO IT AGAIN. WE WORK SO HARD IN CREATING MILESTONES, MEMORABLE MOMENTS THAT YOU WILL NEVER FORGET. AND I THINK THAT THIS IS A MEMORABLE MOMENT. KEEP AN EYE ON THE BESTSELLERS LIST. YOU MIGHT SEE SOME FAMILI

Kindergarten students at Nelson Mandela Elementary in north Omaha have achieved an extraordinary feat by becoming published authors."My sheep just gobbles all day. He plays in the barn and he plays in the hay," wrote Juniper, one of the young authors. "The Mixed-Up Barnyard" features 16 authors, all students in Diann Moore's kindergarten class."They just wrote whatever they felt about that animal and we had it published by Studentreasures, and, bing bang, they're published in kindergarten. Isn't that amazing?" Moore said. The book was the final step in the students' learning process of how to write paragraphs. Each student shared their individual reasons for wanting to write the book. "I wanted to write the book to be an author, so the people can come in and make me famous," Nia said. This is the first time Moore has guided her students in writing a book, and she plans to do it again. "We work so hard in creating milestones, memorable moments for them that you will never forget and I think that this is a memorable moment," Moore said.
