TO GET STARTED WITH EARLY VOTING, YOU CAN GO TO THE NEBRASKA SECRETARY OF STATE’S WEBSITE OR VOTE. DOUGLAS COUNTY.COM. AND WHEN IT COMES TO THE NEW VOTER ID LAW, THE DOUGLAS COUNTY ELECTION COMMISSIONER SAYS THERE ARE SEVERAL WAYS TO MAKE SURE YOU’RE FOLLOWING THE NEW GUIDELINES. IF YOU’RE VOTING IN PERSON THIS YEAR, THE DOUGLAS COUNTY ELECTION COMMISSIONER SAYS TO HAVE A DRIVER’S LICENSE OR STATE ID WITH YOU, AND IF YOU DON’T HAVE ONE OF THOSE, YOU CAN GET A PHOTOCOPY OF OTHER OFFICIAL IDS LIKE IF YOU WORK FOR DOUGLAS COUNTY OR THE CITY OF OMAHA OR THE STATE OF NEBRASKA, IF YOU’RE A COLLEGE STUDENT, A COLLEGE ID IN NEBRASKA. THE NEBRASKA SECRETARY OF STATE’S OFFICE SAYS OTHER ACCEPTABLE FORMS INCLUDE UNITED STATES PASSPORTS AND TRIBAL IDS. TED CRUZ SAYS THEY ALSO CAN BE EXPIRED, BUT IDENTIFICATION CARDS FROM PRIVATE ENTITIES WILL NOT WORK. PLEASE, PLEASE DON’T PHOTOCOPY AND SEND IN YOUR SAM’S AND COSTCO CARD MEMBERSHIPS, BECAUSE THOSE ARE PRIVATE ENTITIES AND WE CAN’T ACCEPT THOSE. IF YOU’RE VOTING BY MAIL, THE DOUGLAS COUNTY ELECTION COMMISSIONER SAYS YOU’LL NOW HAVE TO WRITE YOUR DRIVER’S LICENSE NUMBER OR YOUR STATE ID NUMBER ON THE FORM WHEN YOU REQUEST A BALLOT. IF YOU DON’T HAVE A DRIVER’S LICENSE OR A STATE ID, THERE’S A WHOLE HOST OF OTHER FOR IDS THAT ARE ACCEPTABLE. BUT WHAT HAPPENS IF YOU STILL AREN’T ABLE TO OBTAIN IDENTIFICATION? Nebraska's May 14 primary election will feature the state's new Voter ID law.If you're voting in person this year, the Douglas County Election Commissioner says to have a driver's license or state ID with you. Nebraska's May 14 primary election will feature the state's new Voter ID law.

According to the Nebraska Secretary of State, these are the acceptable forms of ID:

  • Nebraska driver's license or state ID
  • Passport
  • Military ID
  • Tribal ID
  • Hospital, assisted living or nursing home record
  • Nebraska political subdivision (state, county, city, school, etc.)
  • Nebraska college or university ID

"The law states it just has to have your name and a photo of you on it," Douglas County Election Commissioner Brian Kruse said.

They also can be expired, but identification cards from private entities won't work.

"So please, please don't photocopy and send in your Sam's and Costco card membership because those are private entities and we can't accept those," Kruse told KETV NewsWatch 7.
