Brandi Cummings

Anchor/Reporter

Brandi Cummings is an award-winning journalist who anchors the KCRA 3 News on weekday mornings.

She joined the KCRA news team in April 2018 as a general assignment reporter. She has covered stories in Northern California ranging from wildfires to snow. Brandi has extensively covered issues related to COVID-19 funding, testing and vaccine equity. She regularly gives members of our community a voice to shine a spotlight on important issues.

Prior to KCRA, Brandi worked at WAVY/WVBT in Portsmouth, Virginia. She was the station’s solo weekend evening anchor. During the week, she worked as both a general assignment and an award–winning investigative reporter. Before going to WAVY, Brandi worked as a morning anchor at WTOC in Savannah, Georgia. Before moving to Savannah, Brandi worked as a reporter/anchor at WIS in Columbia, South Carolina. She began her career as a producer at WRDW in her hometown, Augusta, Georgia.

During the 2016-2017 school year, Brandi was an adjunct professor at the prestigious Scripps Howard School of Journalism and Communication at Hampton University.

Brandi has several honors which include awards from the Virginia Associated Press and the South Carolina Associated Press. She is a two-time National Association of Black Journalists Salute to Excellence Award winner.

In May 2012, Brandi was honored with a Concurrent Resolution from the South Carolina General Assembly for her service to the people in the state.

Brandi’s stories have allowed her to interview several influential people including former President Barack Obama. In addition to a long list of accomplishments, features, and mentions, Brandi was featured on the Summer 2011 cover of Midlands Woman Magazine. She is a former Board Member of The First Tee of Savannah. Brandi is a member of the National Association of Black Journalists (NABJ) and the National Academy of Television Arts & Sciences, San Francisco/Northern California Chapter.

In 2010, Brandi fulfilled a life’s dream to develop a program for girls. In both Columbia, South Carolina, and Savannah, Georgia, she spearheaded the execution of the program she created, titled the “Loving Me Seminar” for teen girls. In August 2010, she self-published her first book of poetry, “Straight to the Heart: Life & Love.”

Brandi has a Master’s Degree in Integrated Marketing Communications from Lasell College where she graduated in August 2014 with a 3.95 GPA while working full-time. Brandi has a Bachelor’s Degree in Mass Media Arts from Clark Atlanta University, where she graduated with honors. Her alma mater honored her as a “Clark Atlanta University Alum for a Day,” on May 22, 2013.

She, her husband and two children live in Sacramento.
