BRANDI: HOW DID YOU START TO DEVELOP THIS PASSION FOR MUSIC? >> IT ALL STARTED WHEN I WAS IN THE WOMB AND MY DEBT WAS AT THE LIBRARY LOOKING FOR A BOOK AND HE STARTED READING A BOOK. AFTER READING THE BOOK HE FOUND ONE THAT CAUGHT HIS ATTENTION. IF YOU PLAY MODERN MUSIC THROUGH THE WOMB THE CHILD WILL BECOME A MUSICIAN. WHEN I WAS THE AGE OF SIX MY PARENTS TOOK ME TO A FREE CLASS AT THE MUSIC SCHOOL AND AFTER ONE LESSON I WAS PLAYING DRUMS LIKE AN OLD PRO. MY DRUM TEACHER AND MY PARENTS WERE SHOCKED. THEY WERE LIKE DID YOU COME FROM ANOTHER PLANET OR SOMETHING? IT JUST CAME NATURALLY. AFTER THAT, MY PARENTS DECIDED TO GIVE ME ANOTHER INSTRUMENT WHICH WAS THE GUITAR AND AFTER I LEARNED THE GUITAR I FELT LIKE I HAD AN INSPIRATION TO KEEP LEARNING MORE AND MORE INSTRUMENTS. AFTER THE GUITAR I WENT TO THE PIANO, FLUTE, SAX AND ON. I MADE MY FIRST WORLD RECORD OF PLAYING 44 HE SICK -- MUSICAL INSTRUMENTS BY 17. I CAN PLAY AROUND 117 DIFFERENT INSTRUMENTS. BRANDI: AND YOU HAVE A BOOK COMING OUT TOO RIGHT? >> THIS BOOK IS CALLED PASSION TO EXCAVATION -- ESCALATION AND TEENAGERS, AND ADULTS. AFTER READING THIS BOOK THEY WILL HAVE AN IDEA OF ALL THE HUNDREDS OF INSTRUMENTS. I DEMONSTRATED HOW IT IS BEING PLAYED, WHERE THEY ARE FROM, AND THE HISTORY BEHIND THE INSTRUMENT. IT IS OUT ON ALL PLATFORMS. BRANDI: YOU BROUGHT SOME INSTRUMENTS THAT YOU CAN PLAY, TALK US THROUGH WHAT THEY ARE AND LET’S START OVER HERE. TELL ME WHAT THIS IS. >> THIS IS A STRING INSTRUMENT. WE HAVE THE SITAR WHICH IS A STRING INSTRUMENT FROM INDIA. THIS IS SIMILAR TO A TAMBOURINE, OVER HERE WE HAVE THE COMMODITY -- WE HAVE THE SAXOPHONE WE HAVE THE HAND PAN WHICH KIND OF LOOKS LIKE A UFO FROM ITALY. AND WE HAVE THE GUITAR. BRANDI: AND YOU WERE ON THE JENNIFER HUDSON SHOW WHAT WAS THAT LIKE FOR YOU? >> I CAN’T BELIEVE I WAS ON THE SHOW IN FRONT OF AN EGOT WINNER. TO ME SHE IS LIKE A HOLLYWOOD GODDESS. SHE IS ONE OF THE HUMBLED PEOPLE I EVER, YOU KNOW, BEEN TO AND SHE EVEN TRIED EVEN ON THE SHOW WHEN YOU WATCH, SHE EVEN TRIED THE INSTRUMENTS. SHE WAS A VERY FAST LEARNER AND SHE IS. CALL. Elk Grove teen music prodigy to perform on The Jennifer Hudson Show
From his home in Elk Grove to the Warner Brothers studio, Elk Grove teen and music prodigy Neil Nayyar is scheduled to perform on the Jennifer Hudson show on Wednesday. The 17-year-old has mastered 117 different instruments from around the world. He joined KCRA 3 live on Wednesday ahead of airing on national television. Watch him perform a sitar in the video player above. KCRA 3 spoke to Nayyar this summer. He said he's mostly learned all of the instruments by himself through books and watching YouTube videos. Nayyar said he started drum lessons at the age of 6."After one drum lesson, I was playing the drums like an old pro," Nayyar said. "It happened naturally." His second instrument was the guitar."After learning the guitar, I felt like I had the inspiration to keep learning more and more instruments," he said.The music prodigy set his first world record at the age of 12 for playing 44 musical instruments.Nayyar also has a children's book giving people a sneak peek on how to play all the instruments he knows.
