LikedThe hotel is lovely if you're looking to relax for a couple of days in nature, enjoy some good wine, bask in the quiet, and indulge in quality service. The hotel's restaurant is superb, and the spa is quite enjoyable.

DislikedI didn't like the room style, with its dark colors and gloominess. However, I think it's not a big issue if you're staying here for no more than two or three days and if there's bright sunshine outside. Over a longer period, though, it could lead to feeling depressed. The hotel staff is a bit hit-or-miss. While they were generally pleasant and helpful, there were a few instances of indifference to my inquiries.

LikedExceptionally beautiful grounds. Excellent service throughout. Staff were fantastic. Upgraded one of our booked rooms which was much appreciated. Little things like complimentary wine and a birthday cake placed in the room added joy to the celebration. Valet and runners strived to go above and beyond. In-room dining bussers took diligent care and attention to arrange food on a gorgeous and snug balcony. Rarely have I met as pleasant, competent, and professional a front desk attendant as Franz Hildebrandt. Rooms are comfortable, cozy, well-designed, and inviting. Great water pressure in shower and brilliantly oversized freestanding tub accommodating more than one with room to spare. House car with driver available for trips within Calistoga. Complimentary unlimited use of a Polestar fleet. In-room fireplace was pleasant. Food was acceptable. Allow use of spa facilities—however sparse—without booking a treatment. Two large heated communal pools and jacuzzis, of varying depths, for families with children or adults.

DislikedFirst, every single room on property is oriented such that it provides any and all passersby a complete and unobstructed view into the bathroom and shower through a large picture window, thrilling for the voyeurs among you, but necessitating the use of a blackout shade at all times for others. Room layouts are hit-and-miss. One room had an excellent layout making it seem larger and more spacious than it was (624). Another was segmented and choppy giving it a dark and claustrophobic feel (304). Aim for a second-floor room overlooking the vineyard behind the property. First-floor and interior rooms do not provide as nice views. Curtains, A/C and TV should have been automated from either bedside controls or the provided iPad and personal Bluetooth phone app. iPad used for ordering in-room dining, communicating with the hotel, and booking services frequently experienced connectivity issues. Toilet should have had a heated bidet seat—this is quickly becoming standard for new developments. Spa facilities were disappointing. No dry sauna or plunge pool, only a rather large and under-heated steam room. Small, communal whirlpool. Several communications failures from front desk, advising us reservations were not necessary for their on-property Michelin starred restaurant—which was not the case (although the restaurant did graciously accommodate us when we clarified at breakfast the day of)—and failing to notify us of the Easter Sunday bbq brunch provided for guests. On that note, recommend a hard pass on Auro. Extended tasting menu and elite wine pairing were extremely disappointing in taste and substance, and took far too much time, both to commence and to be served. Please value your time and money and visit any of the many, many other offerings in this class off-property. Be aware that the property’s location in Calistoga is somewhat removed from the majority of desired experiences in the valley. Expect a minimum 30-minute drive anywhere.

DislikedI liked everything about the property and the staff who were extremely helpful. We had an issue with our AC at our room during our first day and they promptly addressed it in the most appropriate and efficient way ! A big thank you to all the staff of the resort!
