NORAD aircraft will be in Milwaukee's skies for an airspace exercise. Here's what to know

If you happen to be in Milwaukee this afternoon, you may get a bit of an air show.

The North American Aerospace Defense Command will be conducting a live-fly air defense exercise called, Falcon Virgo.

This aircraft exercise is aimed at protecting North America from air threats and to keep the internal waterways and maritime guarded.

Flights are expected to fly at approximately 6,500 feet in the sky, making them visible for Milwaukeeans to see from the ground.

Here's what you need to know about the upcoming exercise.

When will Falcon Virgo happen?

The live-air defense exercise will be between 1:30 to 2:30 p.m. on Tuesday, July 9 in the greater Milwaukee, Wisconsin area.

What type of aircraft will be participating in the Falcon Virgo exercise?

You should expect to see NORAD aircraft like F-35 and F-16 fighter jets, along with Civil Air Patrol planes.

What exercises are conducted during the flights?

NORAD airspace scenarios include airspace restriction violations, hijackings and responses to unknown aircraft.
