Two Milwaukeeans bring the community together to help families hit by an apartment fire.
Milwaukee residents are uniting to help families affected by a fire on the Fourth of July.
Eighteen apartment units were damaged on North 84th Street and West Mill Road leaving individuals without a home and necessities.
Baked Dreams Bakery and Cafe owner Tamesha Patrice and business owner of Resources and Beyond Sen-Soray Erving partnered to help the families receive clothing, food and toiletries.
Patrice collected clothing and shoe donations inside her bakery shop at Sherman Phoenix Marketplace, while Erving sponsored the free hot and cold meals made by Patrice.
"This has been a much bigger production than what I expected," said Patrice.
This comes as an abundance of donations came steadily until Patrice ran out of capacity, leaving her to search for places store it.
In the meantime, Patrice plans to use her personal storage until families find the housing placement they need.
"This is a (good) problem I'd rather have," said Patrice.
Individuals can pick up the items and food or it can be delivered by Patrice and Erving, as they understand some have lost their vehicles in the fire.
Patrice took action after Fred Sanders broke the news on Facebook about he and his family losing their home.
The Sanders family only had on underclothes when escaping the fire, he explained in the social media post.
Sanders created a GoFundMe to raise $15,000.
Additional help for the families came from the American Red Cross after a meeting was held on Sunday to help the families get the finances and resources they need.
Currently, clothing donations aren't being collected, but you can follow Patrice and Erving on Facebook to view updates on when to donate and receive food.
