Got a court date in Milwaukee during the RNC? Here's what you need to know

You'll want to plan ahead if you've got business at Wisconsin's busiest courthouse during the Republican National Committee's convention, July 15-19.

The Milwaukee County Courthouse complex, at 901 N. Ninth Street in downtown Milwaukee, will be impacted, with many departments and offices adjusting their operations during the convention.

All Circuit Court operations that week will be temporarily relocated to the Vel R. Phillips Juvenile Justice Center, at 10201 W. Watertown Plank Road, Wauwatosa.

Hearings will be virtual. Anyone scheduled to appear for a hearing should contact the court for the Zoom information.

A more-detailed list of specific court operations that week — including in-custody intake court, preliminary hearing court and overflow in-custody intake court — can be found on the county's website.

Here's how other court-related offices will be affected during the weeklong GOP convention:

The Milwaukee County Courthouse, Sept. 13, 2023

District Attorney's Office

Its offices are in the Criminal Justice Facility and Safety Building. Both will be closed to the public that week, and its operations will run remotely during the conference.

If you are a victim of a crime, effort will be made to reach you by phone or email during the RNC. Call 414-278-4667 or visit MilwaukeeVW@da.wi.gov if you need assistance.

If you are a concerned citizen, you can all the District Attorney’s Office at 414-278-4646.

Milwaukee County Sheriff's Office

All paper services, with the exception of Writs of Restitution/Assistance, will be accepted online at MCSOCivilprocess@milwaukeecountywi.gov, along with electronic payment at govpaynow.com. This email is monitored during business hours Monday to Friday 8 a.m.-5 p.m.

For those who can't submit their papers or payments online, you can do so at the sheriff's substation at 10320 W. Watertown Plank Road, Wauwatosa. Operating hours there are 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday-Friday.

Clerk of Court

All downtown offices of the Clerk of Circuit Court will be temporarily relocated to its offices at Children’s Court, 10201 W. Watertown Plank Road.  Court Services will be available to the public in person during regular business hours 8 a.m.– 5 p.m. The Milwaukee Justice Center, located in room G9, will also be closed but will have its Civil Legal Helpline at (414) 278-3965 operational daily from 9 a.m.-4 p.m.

In addition, the Milwaukee County Law Library will be closed; a legal information reference line will remain available at 800-322-9755.

Child Support Services

The office will be closed during the RNC, but case information will be accessible by phone or email: 414-615-2593 or milwcse@milwaukeecountywi.gov.

You'll be able to access your case details via Child Support Online Services, https://csos.wisconsin.gov/login.

Payment Options:

Fencing goes up at federal courthouse

The Milwaukee Federal Building and Courthouse, 517 E. Wisconsin Ave., will be open during regular business hours the week of the convention. Temporary fencing was erected around the building on Wednesday and will remain in place until July 22.

The public will be able to access the building at the Jackson Street entrance.
