The John Smith Centre organises and hosts a series of employability events for students throughout the academic year.
Alongside theDavid Muir Speaker Series, we bring high-profile public service practitioners to the University of Glasgow to share their experiences and career pathways, in order to inspire and inform the next generation about the benefits of a career in public service.
We are currently working with the UK Cabinet Office to bring senior members of staff to speak to students about a career in the civil service.
By the end of 2023/24, the Cabinet Office will have around 400 members of staff based in Glasgow, with the headcount expected to grow. This is an incredibly exciting opportunity for a key function of the UK Government to build greater links both with the University of Glasgow and the wider Glasgow community.
Speakers so far have included Dr Roz Rivaz (Chair of the Nuclear Decommissioning Authority), Chris Stark (Chair of the Climate Change Committee), Alex Chisholm (Cabinet Office COO) and Elizabeth Passey (Chair of the Rural Payments Agency and Convenor of Court at the University of Glasgow).
