Eddie Barnes – Centre Director

Eddie leads and oversees the Centre, and is responsible for all aspects of strategic development. He is leading on shaping the future direction of the Centre, encompassing all its activities and programmes.

He is supported in his role by Alison Hopper and works closely with the Board to deliver the mission and vison of the John Smith Centre.

Eddie brings extensive knowledge and expertise to his role, having served as Director of the think tank Our Scottish Future and as Head of Strategy and Communications to Ruth Davidson MSP prior to joining the Centre.

Alison Hopper – Centre Development Manager

Alison project manages all the Centre’s activities and oversees the day-to-day running of the Centre and its staff, while deputising for Eddie Barnes.

She works with the Centre’s Management Board and supports the Centre Director to take their vision forward by developing and delivering the Centre’s portfolio of initiatives, including our internship and development programmes, events and advocacy activities, and research.

Dr Elisabeth Loose – Research and External Engagement Officer

Elli manages the Centre’s public-facing communications and engagement activities, including social media, press, newsletter and website maintenance. She also oversees the maintenance and population of the Research Hub and supports the delivery of the Centre’s events programme.

In her personal work, Elli is a board member for the Scottish Women’s Budget Group, branch officer for the Women’s Equality Party Glasgow and a part-time illustrator.

Stuart Gray – Centre Administrator

Stuart provides administrative support to help deliver the Centre’s portfolio of development programmes and events. He acts as a point of contact for enquiries to the Centre and manages correspondence with stakeholders such as programme participants and partners, university staff, members of the public and media.

Stuart is a previous participant of the John Smith Parliamentary Internship Programme in 2019/2020.
