It’s 2022, not 1972.

The misnamed Equal Rights Amendment is expired, unnecessary, and harmful to women. Don’t let activists force it on us without our consent.

Three quarters of all states must approve a proposed amendment in order for it to become law. In 1972, Congress sent the ERA to the states for ratification within seven years.

By the ratification deadline, the ERA had failed to receive sufficient support and the amendment died.

But today, activists are trying to shoehorn the failed amendment into the Constitution with a campaign of misinformation and political tricks.

It is urgent that you speak up now to stop the ERA from unlawfully advancing.

The ERA will backfire on women and girls. It will jeopardize a wide range of policies and programs designed to expand opportunities and support women and girls — such as government grants for women in science and single-sex athletic teams, sororities, and even dorm rooms at public universities.

What’s more, the ERA could prohibit single-sex prisons and single-sex public restrooms. And it could require women to register for the military draft.

Urge your Senator to uphold the congressionally imposed ratification deadline and stop the misnamed ERA. Use the form to email, tweet, and/or call your Senator today.

What to Say (Call Script)

Hi, my name is __________, and I live in ___________.

I am calling to encourage Senator __________ to uphold the ratification deadline for the long-expired Equal Rights Amendment. The ERA expired decades ago, but activists are trying to subvert the amendment process simply by adding it to copies of the Constitution. This undermines democracy and hurts women.

  • Women already are equal under the law.
  • But “equal” doesn’t mean “the same.” The ERA will force men and women to be treated the same, regardless of biology or circumstances.
  • The ERA will jeopardize any government policy or program that distinguishes between the sexes, such as separate male and female prisons.
  • Ignoring differences between the sexes will make women more vulnerable to harassment and violencenot less.
  • The ERA will backfire on women, undermining policies and programs designed to support women, such as WIC and federal grants to increase the number of women in STEM fields.

Don’t ERAse women. Please take all necessary actions to uphold the ratification deadline to ensure that the process starts over. Thank you for your time and service.
